OUR STORY

Family-Owned Business

Tucked beneath the Capitan Mountains of New Mexico, where the wind carries the whispers of old legends, lies Shippy Ranch —  a place where the spirit of the American West still rides strong.

The ranch is more than a dream realized — it’s a living testament to heritage, hard work, and stewardship of the land.  What began as a family escape from the city has grown into one of the region’s most extraordinary ranches — home to vast grasslands, clear mountain springs, and generations of wildlife that have called this place home long before fences marked its boundaries.

Since the 1950s, the ranch has been graced by a native elk herd, roaming freely through the canyons and timbered slopes. Their presence is a symbol of endurance — the same resilience that defines the people who tend this land. Alongside them, 500 head of cattle graze the open pastures, and a fine string of horses still work under saddle, connecting daily life to the traditions that built the West.

Their devotion to preservation and balance — protecting the springs that rise from the Capitan Mountains, sustaining both wildlife and livestock through careful water management and respect for the land’s natural rhythm. Every acre of Shippy Ranch carries that promise: to keep the West wild, but never wasted.

And the history runs deep here. Within these ridgelines, the echoes of Billy the Kid and the legend of Smokey Bear still linger — reminders that this country was shaped by both fire and grit, by those who answered the quiet call to enter and those who vowed to protect it.

To walk Shippy Ranch is to step into a living story — one written in hoofprints, sunlight, and silence. It’s a place where family and frontier meet, where the world feels wide again, and where every sunrise looks like the first one ever seen.

This is Shippy Ranch — where the land still speaks, and those who listen leave changed.

PRIVATE LAND FOR HUNTING & LODGING ON THE RANCH

Beyond its working herds and wild ridgelines, Shippy Ranch holds something few places in the West can offer — a private, world-class hunting and lodging experience set across thousands of acres of untouched New Mexico wilderness.

Here, the hunt is more than sport — it’s a return to something primal and timeless. Guests pursue trophy elk and other native game across private land that’s been carefully preserved. Whether you seek a luxurious retreat or a rugged backcountry adventure, every stay is tailored to your pace, your comfort, and your sense of the wild.

The ranch can accommodate up to 30 guests across a collection of private ranch cabins, each blending Western craftsmanship with modern comfort. From hand-hewn timbers to panoramic mountain views, every detail speaks to the land’s spirit — refined, raw, and unmistakably real.

And hidden deep in the hills lies one of Shippy Ranch’s best-kept secrets: the Lost Highway Saloon — a private gathering place that seats over eighty guests beneath vaulted beams and warm light. Within those walls, stories have been told, songs have been sung, and legends have lingered long after the fire burned low. The ranch has quietly hosted rock stars, Hollywood icons, and old friends alike — drawn here not for attention, but for the rare peace that only the true West can offer.

At Shippy Ranch, every experience can be as extravagant or untamed as you choose — fine whiskey under chandeliers or coffee by the campfire, a guided luxury hunt or a long ride under an endless sky.

This is the West, reimagined — wild at heart, yet refined in every detail.
